Terms
Short, because the service does little on your behalf and knows almost nothing about you.
What this is
Chilavu is a personal expense book. It is run as a small independent service. Using it means accepting what is on this page.
Your phrase cannot be recovered
Your twelve-word recovery phrase is generated on your device and is never sent anywhere. It is the only way back into your account if you lose your devices.
If you lose it, nobody can help you — not the operator, not anyone. There is no reset, no support route, no backdoor. This is the cost of the server being unable to read your entries, and it is not a policy that can be waived for a particular person, because the ability to waive it would defeat the design for everybody.
Your account
You are given a number rather than asked for an email address or a password. Keep your phrase and your passcode to yourself. Anything done by a device enrolled on your account is treated as done by you; you can see your devices and revoke any of them from inside the app.
What is expected of you
- Do not use the service to break the law, or to store material it is illegal to hold.
- Do not attempt to disrupt it or to reach other people's data. That the contents are unreadable is not an invitation to try.
- Do not automate abuse of the service. Requests are rate limited; do not work around that.
- Do not share an account with people who should not have everything in it. Sharing a book is the supported way to share.
What is offered, and what is not
The service is provided as it is, without warranty of any kind. It is a small service on a single machine. It may be unavailable, it may lose data, and it may change. Keep your own backup — the app can make one, sealed under a passphrase of your choosing.
To the extent the law allows, the operator is not liable for loss arising from your use of the service, including lost or unreachable data. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
Access
Sign-up is by invitation at present. Access may be withdrawn for anything in "what is expected of you" above, or for behaviour that threatens the service for other people. Where it is reasonable to do so you will be told and given the chance to take a backup first.
Money
There is no charge at present. If that ever changes, it will be announced in the app before it applies, and what you have already written will remain readable and exportable either way.
Ending it
You can delete your account at any time from inside the app, and it takes effect at once. See deleting your account.
Changes
These terms may change. The date below says when they last did, and a change that materially affects you will be said in the app rather than left here to be discovered.
